Pi Compass is an independent editorial project documenting the Pi Network ecosystem: what the mining app does, how the mainnet works, which exchanges list native PI and which list a synthetic IOU under the same ticker, and where holders lose money. Publishing since 18 November 2024. We are not Pi Network.
Worth stating twice, because search results for "pi coin" are crowded with sites that blur the line. Pi Compass has no affiliation with, sponsorship from or endorsement by Pi Network, the Pi Core Team, SocialChain Inc., the Pi Community Company, the Pi Foundation or PiBit Ltd. The official website is minepi.com; the official apps are distributed only through the Apple App Store and Google Play. If you came here looking for a support desk, we are not one — our contact page says where to go.
What this site is
A field guide for people who already have a balance in the app and a decision to make. Our position is that of an outside auditor: read the primary documents, name the source of every number, say plainly when something cannot be checked. Some of what we found is unflattering. It stays.
How we research
Documents first, then the chain.
| Source | What we take from it |
|---|---|
| Pi whitepaper, March 2019, and its December 2021 addendum | Consensus design, the original mining schedule, supply allocation, stated intent. |
| MiCA white paper filed October 2025 | Corporate structure, max supply, the 0.01 π fee, the "no ICO" statement, Pi's own risk language. A regulated disclosure, so the strongest document here. |
| Pi's blog, roadmap and support pages | KYC and migration rules, deadlines, product launches, the official KYB list. |
| Exchange listing notices | Whether a venue supports real deposits and withdrawals, which memo it requires, what it warns will be lost. |
| Public blockchain data | Balances, base fees and ledger close times read from Pi's Horizon-compatible API at api.mainnet.minepi.com, cross-checked against blockexplorer.minepi.com. |
| Market aggregators | Price, volume and supply. Attributed and date-stamped, shown side by side when two disagree. |
Two habits follow. Every volatile figure carries a date, because a price without one is decoration. And where a number exists only as a community claim or third-party estimate — Pi's forward unlock schedule being the clearest case — we label it unverified rather than launder it into fact.
Why the byline says "research desk"
Every page here is published under Pi Compass research desk rather than a named individual, and we would rather be blunt about that than dress it up. There is no roster of analysts with photographs because we are not going to invent one. A fabricated biography is a worse signal than none.
Check the source, not the name
An author photo tells you nothing about whether a claim is true. A citation does. So we name the document behind each exact figure inline — the whitepaper section, the MiCA filing, the exchange's own notice — rather than ask you to trust an unverifiable person. If a source we name does not say what we claim, that is a defect you can prove.
How this site makes money
Two affiliate buttons appear across the site, tagged nofollow sponsored. They open a third-party exchange in a new tab, and if you open an account there we may earn a commission at no extra cost to you. That is the whole model: no sponsored posts, no paid reviews, no ad network, no mailing list.
What matters is what the money does not buy. Affiliate relationships do not determine what we conclude, and we publish negative findings about venues we link to. See our exchange page and the trading platforms comparison: linked venues get marked as IOU markets when that is what they are, and thin liquidity, regional blocks and custody risk get the same treatment as anywhere else.
Corrections policy
We get things wrong. The useful question is what happens next.
- Email contact@pi-coin.app with the page URL, the sentence, and a source if you have one.
- Factual corrections jump the queue ahead of everything else in the inbox.
- Corrected pages get a new Reviewed date, so you can tell how old the text is.
- Where a correction changes the substance of a claim, we say what changed rather than edit silently.
What we do not do
Nobody here will ever ask for your passphrase
We have no wallet product, no migration service and no way to touch your balance. If anything claiming to be Pi Compass asks for your 24-word passphrase, a private key or a password, it is not us and it is stealing from you.
We give no financial, investment, tax or legal advice, and publish no price predictions or targets. We do not sell, custody, broker or issue any digital asset. We do not accept payment to change a conclusion. The full legal statement is on our disclaimer page, with the site rules in the terms of use.
The short version
Independent, unaffiliated, funded by two labelled affiliate buttons, published under a desk byline with sources named inline. Read us the way we read Pi Network: check the citation, then decide.
Frequently asked questions
Is Pi Compass affiliated with Pi Network?
No. Pi Compass has no affiliation with, sponsorship from or endorsement by Pi Network, the Pi Core Team, SocialChain Inc., the Pi Community Company, the Pi Foundation or PiBit Ltd. The official Pi Network website is minepi.com, and the official apps are distributed only through the Apple App Store and Google Play. We are an outside reader of Pi's published material, nothing more.
Why are there no named authors on your articles?
Because a name would add nothing you can verify. We publish under the "Pi Compass research desk" byline and instead name the source of every exact figure inline, so you can open the original document and check it yourself. We would rather be judged on whether the citation holds up than on a biography. We do not invent credentials, and there are no stock-photo authors on this site.
Do you get paid by the exchanges you write about?
Two affiliate buttons appear across the site, tagged nofollow sponsored, and we may earn a commission if you open an account through them. That relationship buys placement, not conclusions. Our exchange and trading-platform pages publish thin volumes, IOU classifications, regional blocks and custody risk for linked venues as readily as for any other.
How do I report an error on one of your pages?
Email contact@pi-coin.app with the page URL, the sentence you think is wrong, and a source if you have one. Factual corrections get priority over everything else in the inbox. When we change a published page we update its Reviewed date, and where a correction changes the substance of a claim we say so in the text rather than editing quietly.
